## Analog Asia

**Area:** Field recordings

A travel diary in sound. During a trip through Asia in 2019, I collected more than 16 hours of field recordings. Those sounds — monks, streets, rural life and everyday encounters — became the starting point for an album shaped with synths and drums.

The original album was followed by Analog Asia (Remix).

## Website navigation and listening

- The landing page presents eight project areas around Eugen Schott’s name on desktop and in a grid on mobile.
- Project elements float gently with independent timing. Each element pauses on hover, keyboard focus or press. A global pause control and reduced-motion preferences are respected. The central name stays still. A sparse warm/cool dust field inspired by RUN4 drifts behind the projects in dark mode; light mode uses graphite-coloured dust over static fine grain. The same pause control stops both project and background movement. Reduced-motion preferences show a still background.
- Hovering or focusing the name reveals a small portrait on desktop. Activating the name opens About, which includes a larger portrait.
- Project views place the short description and official links beside the image or player on larger screens. Longer product information and release lists use keyboard-accessible tabs. All sections remain available in the HTML and Markdown editions.
- Fungi Tapes, Bipeula and LBL have Spotify artist players.
- Analog Asia has a Bandcamp album player.
- Music players remain blocked until the visitor allows the individual provider. After permission, its players load directly when a music project is opened; playback starts when the visitor presses Play. The footer Media settings control allows withdrawal; choices expire after 180 days.
- Contact opens the email address and social profiles.
- The release archive provides vinyl and tape catalogue links.
- Selected credits provides production references and collaborator, label and company lists.
- Dark mode is the default; a header button switches to light mode. The chosen appearance is remembered in the visitor’s browser.

### Website delivery and security

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Workers (static assets), provided by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Requests transmit technical information such as your IP address, requested URL, time of access, browser information and connection metadata. This processing serves website delivery, reliability and protection against misuse. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, based on the legitimate interest in providing a secure portfolio.

The portfolio adds no analytics SDK, advertising pixels or visitor accounts. Cloudflare processes delivery and security data under its service arrangements and may process data outside the EEA, including in the United States. Cloudflare’s privacy policy and Data Processing Addendum describe the provider’s processing, retention criteria and applicable transfer safeguards, including standard contractual clauses where used. Security features may use necessary cookies; information about these is linked below.

### Appearance preference

If you choose light or dark mode, the setting is stored locally in your browser under eugen-schott-theme so that your requested appearance can be restored. It remains until you change it or clear the site’s browser storage. It is not sent to me and is not used for tracking. This functional storage serves the appearance you explicitly request (Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG); where personal data is involved, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR applies.

### Embedded music

Spotify and Bandcamp players remain blocked until you allow the individual provider. Once allowed, its player loads directly when you open a music project. Playback begins when you press Play. Loading the player discloses your IP address, browser and device information and may involve cookies or similar storage for playback, measurement and personalisation. The legal basis for this optional loading is consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and Section 25(1) TDDDG. You may decline without affecting access to the portfolio or its external listening links. Spotify AB and Bandcamp Ventures LLC describe their processing, possible account association, analytics, retention and international transfers in their privacy policies. Closing a project removes its player but does not delete data already received or stored by a provider. You can withdraw your permission at any time in [Media settings](https://eugenschott.de/#media-settings); withdrawal stops future player loading and does not affect earlier lawful processing.

### Remembering your media choices

The browser stores each provider’s allow/block choice, its timestamp and the notice version under eugen-schott-media. Choices expire after 180 days and are not sent to me or used to identify you. They are read only to honour your privacy choice, using Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG and, where relevant, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. You can change them in Media settings or delete them by clearing the site’s browser storage. If local storage is unavailable, choices apply only while the page remains open.

### Email enquiries

If you email me, I use your email address, message, any name and attachments you provide, and associated communication metadata to respond. The site has no contact form or newsletter subscription. Email is handled using Gmail (Google). For an enquiry about a contract, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR; for other correspondence it is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, based on the interest in answering enquiries. Please provide only information needed for your request.

I retain correspondence while needed to handle the enquiry or resulting business relationship, then delete it unless legal retention duties or the establishment, exercise or defence of claims require further storage. Where a legal retention duty applies, Article 6(1)(c) GDPR is the basis. Email service providers process the messages as part of transmission and storage; Google’s privacy policy explains its own processing.

### External links and international processing

Instagram, LinkedIn, music shops and other external services are ordinary links, not embedded social feeds. Following a link takes you to that provider. Hosting, email and music services may process data outside the EEA, including in the United States. Their privacy notices explain the applicable locations and transfer safeguards, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses, where used. A link to a provider’s policy does not replace your rights against me for processing for which I am responsible.

### Your rights

Subject to the legal conditions, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may withdraw consent at any time for the future without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation. Contact me at the email above to exercise these rights.

You may also complain to a supervisory authority, including the authority where you live or work. For private-sector controllers in Bavaria, this is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany; see its complaint link below.

# RUN4 — Tape & Texture Machine for iPhone & iPad

A four-track instrument for tape loops, sampling, granular textures and live performance. Made by Eugen Schott for iPhone and iPad.

## Capture, shape, sequence, perform

Record a sound, overdub a loop, resample an idea and turn it into a performance. RUN4 combines a tape workflow with samples, synthesis and patterns in one touch instrument.

## Three ways to work with sound

Tape handles recording, looping, overdubbing and freeze. Poly brings samples, synth voices and hosted AUv3 instruments into patterns. Disc is for playing and performing longer audio.

## Movement and texture

Shape tracks through Grain, Tone, Color and Air. Use modulation, effects, macros and punch-in controls to develop a sound while it plays. Patterns support up to 64 steps, Euclidean tools, probability and parameter locks.

## Standalone and AUv3

Use RUN4 on its own or in a compatible AUv3 host. The standalone instrument can also host compatible AUv3 instruments and effects. MIDI, Bluetooth MIDI and Ableton Link connect it to the rest of your setup.

## Keep the session, finish the idea

Save projects on the device or use optional iCloud synchronisation between iPhone and iPad. Export a finished mix or individual audio stems. File export and offline bounce are standalone features.

## TÓLF: the optional expansion

TÓLF adds twelve more tracks with synth, sampler and granular voices, plus pattern generators, Arp and Strum. Record its tracks back into RUN4’s tape workflow. TÓLF is a separate one-time in-app purchase.

# Verdandi — norns for macOS, Standalone & AUv3

The norns sound computer on your Mac. Verdandi is an independent community port for Apple silicon, available standalone and as an AUv3 plugin.

## The norns environment, on macOS

Run norns scripts with SuperCollider engines, softcut, tape and the maiden editor. Verdandi places the instrument in a Mac window, with mouse and keyboard controls alongside the familiar interface.

## Audio from your Mac

Use a microphone or audio interface, capture system audio, or select a single app as an input. Drag samples from the Finder into the instrument.

## Real or virtual hardware

Connect monome grid, arc, crow and MIDI hardware, or use the virtual grid, arc and MIDI keyboard. The virtual grid supports 64, 128 and 256 layouts.

## Standalone and in your DAW

Open Verdandi as a standalone instrument or use its AUv3 plugin with a compatible host. The project targets Apple silicon Macs running macOS 15 Sequoia or newer.

## An independent open-source project

Verdandi is an unofficial port and is not affiliated with monome. norns was created by monome and its contributors. The app is free, with GPL-3.0 source; bundled components retain their own licences.
